About me – Ziko van Dijk

Originally I come from the Ruhr area (western Germany). I studied German and history in Bochum, Utrecht and Cologne. I also did my doctorate in history. My interest is in German and Dutch history of the 19th and 20th centuries. I was head of a specialized library and chairman of Wikimedia Nederland. I am co-founder of a Wikipedia for children, the Klexikon. On YouTube I run the channels „Niederlande & Duitsland“ and „Understanding wikis and Wikipedia„.

I have given many lectures, led seminars and organized events on the topics of history, Europe, free knowledge and wikis. At schools, universities and adult education centers as well as for political organizations. I have been invited to panel discussions and expert groups, from the Gedenkstättenseminar (seminar on memorial culture) and Erlanger Poetentag to WikiCon and Wikimania to Historikertag.
